A Tree Shot In Half By Minie Balls At Spotsylvania
This is what is left of a tree that was twenty-two inches wide and growing on the battlefield of Spotsylvania Virginia in 1864. The volume of bullets was so heavy that it was completely cut in two. It was on display in the Smithsonian in Washington DC when I was there in the fall of 1996.
