White Cliffs Of Dover

These are pictures of the White Cliff's of Dover and Dover Castle. I took them from a jet foil crossing the English Channel back to Belgium. Dover is the closest point from England to the coast of France and Belgium. This is where Hitler thought that the invasion would come from. The area was also crucial during the Battle of Britain. Dover Castle was used as a command post directing British Air defenses. Many air battles were fought over this area and people had a front row seat observing from the ground. I had the pleasure of meeting an American war veteran on the boat who was returning for ceremonies marking the fortieth anniversary of the end of the war in Europe. He was a veteran of the Battle of the Bulge.
