HURT FEELINGS
William Lloyd Garrison |
I am aware, that many object to the severity of my language; but is there not cause for severity? I will be as harsh as truth, and as un-compromising as justice. On this subject, I do not wish to think, or speak, or write, with moderation. No! no! Tell a man whose house is on fire, to give a moderate alarm; tell him to moderately rescue his wife from the hands of the ravisher; tell the mother to gradually extricate her babe from the fire into which it has fallen; – but urge me not to use moderation in a cause like the present. I am in earnest- I will not equivocate- I will not excuse- I will not retreat a single inch- AND I WILL BE HEARD.
–William Lloyd Garrison,
in the first issue of The Liberator
This quote by Garrison and a quote from Lincoln's Lyceum speech are probably my two favorite quotes of all time. Garrison and Lincoln were both talking about the thing that posed the greatest threat to the country in their time. The institution of slavery. Garrison saw slavery as a moral evil that had to be dealt with immediately. He had no patience for ignorance, apathy and excuses. Lincoln realized that America could not be destroyed by an outside enemy. Our destruction would have to come from within. He said "If destruction be our lot we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of free men we must live through all time or die by suicide". Slavery was a moral evil that eventually led to a brutal civil war that nearly destroyed this country. It is a historical fact that the Northern and Southern wings of the Democratic Party fought to preserve and excuse the institution of slavery. The Republican Party was formed from the anti-slavery Whigs like Lincoln and anti-slavery Democrats. Lincoln revered three things. The Bible, the Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution. Modern America has turned it's back on all three and this is the source of our problems today.
In my opinion America faces an even greater challenge than Lincoln's generation. We are headed toward national suicide. Again, it is the Democratic Party, with the collusion of the establishment Republican Party, that is leading us down that path. If Hillary Clinton wins this election the American people are basically agreeing to their own demise. They will send the message that they are okay with open borders and the balkanization of this country. America will no longer be united by language and culture. It will be well on its way to third world status. This will increase the potential for chaos and violence. Islam will continue to grow in America and more and more communities will be dominated by Sharia law. Hillary will be able to tilt the supreme court in a vastly leftward direction. The racial divide will worsen because the race merchants and our government leaders will continue to stir the pot.
Our 1st and 2nd Amendment rights will be in great jeopardy. We will continue down a path where our free speech rights will be curtailed in favor of political correctness. Christians will continue to be punished for making faith based decisions regarding homosexuality and other issues that violate a persons conscience. Islam will be given a pass as usual and the threat of terrorism will increase. The right of self defense will diminish as more and more gun control laws are passed and the courts declare that the 2nd Amendment is not a fundamental right. Our military will continue to weaken while the military of China and Russia will continue to grow putting our country in grave danger. The capitalistic boom and bust cycles of the past will be replaced by a permanent anemic socialistic economy of uncertainty. People will gradually sink deeper and deeper into poverty and dependency on the government. Our government will become more and more corrupt because we will continue to be led by gangsters.
Over the last few years I have done a lot of genealogy on the various branches of my family. I recently discovered that the average life expectancy for the Segroves family is 66 and I am 66 years old. If I beat the odds I figure that that I will be lucky if I live another fifteen to twenty years. I don't think I am being overly dramatic when I say that I can see a scenario in the time that I have left that my life could be shortened because I might be forced to defend my basic rights as an American. I fear mostly for my children and grandchildren. My parents generation has been described as the greatest generation. My generation, however; the baby boomers, was the most privileged generation that America will ever see. We were also the most spoiled because our parents wanted us to have more than they had, since they were children of the depression and WW2. Our children and grandchildren will never have the economic opportunities and freedom that we had. That is behind us.
Because the stakes are so high in this election I just don't have patience for ignorance and apathy anymore. There is no excuse for it. If I hurt anyone's feelings I wont apologize for telling the truth. Our country is on fire and like William Lloyd Garrison I intend to sound the alarm and not in a moderate way. It is not business as usual. I don't like to say never but If Hillary wins this election the vote I cast for Trump will probably be my last. I will try to live what life I have left as a free man but I will just sit back and wait for that jack booted knock on my door. The older I get the more I can relate to Patrick Henry. "For my part, whatever anguish of spirit it may cost, I am willing to know the whole truth; to know the worst and provide for it". "I know of no way of judging the future but by the past". "I know not what others may choose but, as for me, give me liberty or give me death".
