DESTROYING THE EVIDENCE

Over the last few years we have all heard about Democrat cities removing Confederate statues. The latest was the statue of Stonewall Jackson in Richmond Virginia. During the George Floyd riots Democrat mobs destroyed many of these monuments. I remember one statue in particular that was destroyed. The monument of Edward Ward Carmack that stood on the south side of the Tennessee State capital for the first 70 years of my life. Every time I passed that statue I always wondered who he was. That is until I read his (Pledge To The South) at a small Confederate cemetery at Beech Grove Tennessee which is the site of the battle of Hoovers Gap. I began studying about Carmack and found out that he was a Democrat politician, lawyer and newspaper publisher who incited a deadly race riot in Memphis Tennessee in 1892 that killed a number of innocent blacks. His editorials targeted anti lynching crusader Ida Wells.  Wells was called the "Mother of the Civil Rights movement" and she spoke out against this atrocity in her newspaper called "Free Speech". Carmack demanded retaliation against the "black wench" as he called her in his newspaper. As a result of this editorial her newspaper offices were destroyed. Luckily Wells was out of town when this happened. It was thirty years before Ida Wells ever returned to the South. Wells wrote "I am not a Democrat, because the Democrats considered me a chattel and possibly might have always so considered me, because their record from the beginning has been inimical to my interests. I am not a Republican, because, after they — as a party measure and an inevitable result of the war — had ‘given the Negro his freedom’ and the ballot box following, all through their reign — while advocating the doctrine of the Federal Government’s right to protecting her citizens — they suffered the crimes against the Negro, that have made the South notorious, to go unpunished and almost unnoticed and turned them over to the tender mercies of the South." Wells was justifiably upset with the Republican party, which she and most blacks identified with as the party that represented freedom, because they had abandoned Southern blacks to the mercies of the Democrat party in the South after the Compromise of 1877. Because of that Compromise blacks were subjected to Jim Crow segregation policies in the South until the civil rights acts of 1964 and 65 which could not have been passed without the almost unanimous support of the Republican party which was opposed by a majority of Democrats.

Although Carmack was a racist he supported the progressive cause of The Temperance Union. Like most Democrat leaders today he was a hyprocrite who was a drinker in his personal life but supported the prohibition of alcohol to gain political support in his efforts to run for political office. This is kind of like the modern day progressive Democrats who preach to us about climate change but fly all over the world in their private jets polluting the atmosphere or those who advocate for gun control for the average law abiding citizen while hiding behind their armed security details. On March 3, 1907 Carmack died in a shootout on 7th Avenue near Union Street in Nashville with two of his political enemies who represented the wet side of the prohibition issue. Carmack was talking to a woman when he saw the men approach. He pulled his gun and hid behind the woman but was shot dead. The Temperance Union erected the statue to him. The irony of all this is that most of the statues that the Democrats are tearing down were erected by Democrats. So what is really going on here? Are they so ashamed of the fact they supported slavery, lynching and segregation that they are trying to destroy the evidence of their sins and crimes against humanity? They started the Civil War and supported the Confederate Army. So why are they so hostile to it's memory? California has decided to pay reparations for slavery. I will support reparations the day that the Democrat party personally pays reparations out of their own pockets. It was their party that supported slavery. Why should the rest of us pay for their sins?

I am for preserving all history, good or bad. Although the Democrat mob destroyed the statue of Edward Ward Carmack I might never have known who the real Carmack was if the statue had not been there all of those years. Ignorance is my enemy. I hate to remain ignorant of something because I realize that knowledge is power. It is something that cannot be taken from you once that you have it. I doubt that 99.9 percent of the Democrat mob that tore Carmack's statue down even knew who he was or what he had done. They probably didn't care. Like Karl Marx they simply wanted to destroy all that exists. I think Ida Wells hit the nail on the head when she said  "I am not a Democrat, because the Democrats considered me a chattel and possibly might have always so considered me, because their record from the beginning has been inimical to my interests" Inimical to my interests. If blacks realized what Ida Wells realized they would not support the Democrat party. Many blacks have realized what Well's realized and have abandoned the Democrat party. The Democrat party doesn't care about them any more than they did under slavery and Jim Crow. The welfare policies of the 1960's until today have helped destroy the black family and condemned many of them to a strict cycle of poverty that is difficult to break out from. The so-called sexual revolution and the drug culture fostered by the Democrats has also contributed to the rise in crime among blacks and the further breakdown of the black family. Democrat leadership and their leniency toward criminals has led to the slaughter of innocent blacks on the streets of these large Democrat led cities. Democrat policies have also led to the deterioration of the white family as well. Good, hard working, law abiding patriotic American's of all races regularly walk into polling places and vote for the Democrat party, a party inimical to their interests as Well's said. We all have friends and family that do this but no matter what you say to them they will not listen to reason. If I was a Democrat leader who represented a party with such a dark history I guess I might try to destroy the evidence of it too.
