A HOUSE DIVIDED

As a student of history I believe that America is at a place today very similar to where we were in 1860. American's are literally ready to fight each over over our political differences. We could be on the threshold of another civil war. I was watching an episode of Dr. Phil where he interviewed a black man who has converted from being a leftist Democrat and a former member of Black Lives Matter into a Trump supporting Conservative. The man talked about how he hasn't spoken to some friends and immediate family since he changed his political views three years ago. His family has disowned him. He has also received death threats but he says that he trusts in God and his Glock. Doctor Phil then interviewed a Democrat white woman who requested that her identity be hidden. She had also received death threats and had been run off the road on several occasions. People have flipped her off because of her bumper stickers. The woman was also stalked by a woman who called her a baby killer because of her stance on abortion. She lives in a rural area which is predominately Republican. It pains me when I hear of someone on our side displaying obnoxious or violent behavior toward someone on the Democrat side. I am old school and believe firmly in the principle that we can learn to disagree agreeably and even though I disagree with someone I can still be their friend. One of my favorite quotes, which was attributed to Voltaire is that "I disagree with what you say but I will defend to the death your right to say it". I won't lie to you. When I see some of the leftist bumper stickers on cars I want to force them off the road or flip them a bird myself but I exercise what we once had more of. Self discipline and maturity. Dr. Phil cited the statistic that 52% of Democrats and 77% of Republican's are afraid to voice their political opinions. I think that the facts will easily show that Republican's have much more to fear from the left than Democrats do from the right. The hateful rhetoric coming from the left is far greater than that from the right. If you show up at a Trump rally and you are not there just to stir up trouble but there to observe with an open mind you will feel the love. I see this all the time on Youtube.

The American Civil War happened because the Democrat Party supported slavery in some form or the other in both the North and the South. In the North the Democrats were for popular sovereignty which meant that they were willing to allow the people in the territories the right to vote for or against slavery but the Southern Democrats were the extremists. They believed that they had a constitutional right to spread slavery into the territories without a vote. Slavery was the basis for the elite Democrats wealth and political power. They were going to protect it even at the risk of war. In the North the Republican's were the antislavery party. There were moderates like Lincoln who hated slavery but were willing to allow slavery to exist where it already existed but they didn't want it to spread into the territories. Lincoln was willing to compromise on the evil of slavery if it meant keeping the Union and the Constitution intact. Then there were the Republican abolitionists like Thaddeus Stevens who wanted to end slavery by any means necessary, even it meant the destruction of the Union and the Constitution. Not only did he want to end slavery but he wanted full civil rights for the black man. He was in a common-law marriage with a black woman who posed as his housekeeper. William Lloyd Garrison believed the same way. He called the Constitution a covenant with death and an agreement with hell because the Constitution protected slavery. We could not have been more divided than we were before the Civil War. Like today, many were trying to compromise with evil which is impossible. Until the slavery question was settled we couldn't help but be a divided nation. Quoting the Bible Lincoln said that "A house divided against itself cannot stand". As we look back on this period 160 years later the vast majority of Americans would agree that slavery was a moral evil. So who was on the right side of history? Was it the Democrat pro slavery-party or the Republican anti-slavery party?

If Christ somehow delays his return for another 160 years how will American's evaluate the period we live in now? Will the party that advocated for abortion through all nine months of pregnancy and beyond be the moral party? There is a link between the argument for slavery and abortion on demand. In order to justify slavery the enslaved had to be dehumanized by the slaveowner and those who sympathized with slavery. In order to justify killing an unborn baby the baby must be dehumanized by the people who advocate for abortion. To them it becomes a fetus or a clump of cells. The sacredness of property rights is embedded in American law. When John Locke wrote his 2nd Treatise of Government he talked about the fundamental rights of life, liberty and property. The concept of property is a fundamental right. Modern American's would never call a human being property. Democrats prior to the Civil War looked at black slaves as property. This argument on a moral level was fundamentally flawed. If black people were human, which of course they were, then they were entitled to life, liberty and property the same as everyone. Thomas Jefferson changed this to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness which essentially meant the same thing. Modern day Democrats use an argument in favor of abortion that is just as flawed as that used by their antebellum Democrat predecessors. They argue that the government should not be able to make medical decisions for a woman or tell them what they can do with their bodies. The right to make decisions about your own body is a cherished fundamental right in America in the same way that property rights are fundamental. If it was really their body I would agree wholeheartedly with them. It is not their body, however; because an unborn baby is a separate entity. An unborn baby has it's own DNA and it's own soul. It will temporarily reside in the mother until birth but it is not a part of the mothers body. Yes, it may look like her, act like her and share many biological and emotional characteristics but it is a separate person. The Democrats believe that a woman has ownership of her body until it is time to get a Covid shot. Then it is okay for the government to force her to take a shot that she may not want in order to keep her job. This is also funny coming from a party that can't define what a woman is. Yet it is ready to protect a woman's right to choose death when it comes to abortion.

This same party that opened our borders to the entire world causing so much strain on our economy and social welfare system. They exposed our citizens to murder, rape, torture, drunk driving accidents and fentanyl poisoning. Opened our country to the Cartel and human trafficking. This is the party that wants the vote of non-citizens to cancel out my vote. They want unlimited government spending which causes severe inflation and the weakening of our dollar. This is the party that promotes a foreign policy so weak that it caused a military fiasco in Afghanistan which killed thirteen American's and increases our chances for WWIII. Their weakness endangers every man woman and child in the United States. This is the party of rising crime rates and chaos, along with homelessness, that is turning our once great cities into wastelands. They advocate chopping off the breasts and genitalia of children before they are old enough to make decisions about their bodies for themselves? This party encourages the sexual grooming of our children with a perverted drag queen story hour? I guess I am just part of the problem in America today because I speak truth which is the new hate speech. Will this party be on the right side of history? The real question is this. Are we on God's side? Abraham Lincoln said it best. 'Sir, my concern is not whether God is on our side; my greatest concern is to be on God's side, for God is always right.' Truth is always divisive and if we are to be divided I prefer to be on the side that is right because both sides can't be right.

Matthew 10:34-36

34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.
