LIGHTEN UP FRANCIS

I am an American Idol fan and last Sunday I was watching when a young male contestant stated that he was a survivor of a school shooting in Santa Fe Texas. When asked why he was competing he said that it was to honor his fellow students that were killed. Katy Perry fell over on her face crying and when she raised her head she went into a hysterical anti gun rant. The comment that stuck in my mind is when she screamed that "our government has f-ing failed us". I share her frustration about school shootings and the fact that they keep happening. We are miles apart, however; on how to stop these shootings.. Her focus is on removing guns from law abiding citizens. My focus is on giving law abiding citizens with guns a greater opportunity to protect children from these monsters and to eliminate gun free zones. Gun free zones, such as schools, are an open invitation for some deviant to come in with a gun and kill people.

Katy is right though. Government has failed us many times over. Primarily because government can't wipe it's own butt. As Reagan so famously said, government isn't the solution, it is the problem. The governments of Democrat run cities like Chicago, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Detroit, Houston, Washington D.C., New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New Orleans have disarmed their citizens and they refuse to prosecute criminals or even hold them in jail. They are then free to terrorize an unarmed population. If a law abiding citizen even defends themselves against these thugs they are more likely to go to prison than their attacker. God help them if they defend themselves with a gun. The same goes for those slave states like New York, Michigan, Illinois, California, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania that that have disarmed their citizens and empowered criminals. It is so bad in these places that businesses are moving out and good people are leaving in droves moving to the business and people friendly states of Tennessee, Florida, Texas, Arkansas, Iowa, Missouri and so many other free states. Then there is the Federal government that has weaponized the F.B.I. to harass and terrorize it's law abiding citizens by branding them as white supremacists and terrorists when the real terrorists such as antifa and BLM are ignored and even celebrated. Every problem that we face in America today has been inflicted on this country by the Democrat party and their buddies like Mitch McConnel and his like minded comrades in the Republican party.

I rewatched the testimony of Suzannah Hupp given before the Texas legislature in 1991 several times this week. Ms. Hupp's testimony led to Texas being the first state in the Union to pass a gun carry law for law abiding citizens. This law opened the door for most states to pass similar laws soon after her testimony, including my state of Tennessee in the mid 1990's. Ms. Hupp was testifying because she had been the victim of a mass shooting. In her testimony she recalled how on October 16, 1991 she was sitting in a Luby's cafeteria in Killeen Texas eating lunch with her elderly parents. A maniac rammed his pick-up truck through a plate glass window and drove into the restaurant. He then got out and methodically began shooting people. She testified that even though it was illegal in Texas she kept a pistol in her purse for self protection. Friends had taught her how to shoot and her first thought was that she could easily take this guy out. She suggested that her gun might have jammed, or she might have missed him but she had hit targets a lot further away she said. The only problem was that she didn't have her gun that day because it was a felony to carry a weapon in certain places in Texas so she had left her gun in her car. For protection they had flipped their table over and were using it for a shield. Her father decided to rush the man but was shot in the chest. Someone had broken out a nearby plate glass window and people were escaping through it. She grabbed her mother and told her to follow her through the window. When she ran outside she realized that her mother wasn't with her. Police later told Suzannah that her mother ran instead to her mortally wounded husband of over forty years and cradled his head in her lap. The shooter walked up to her mother and fatally shot her in the head. Ms. Hupp testified that if she had it all to do over again she would gladly have risked a felony if it meant saving the lives of her parents.

Suzannah Hupp

Ms. Hupp gave one of the best and most eloquent arguments in favor of the 2nd Amendment that I have ever heard. If you are anti-second amendment and your mind is not changed after listening to her testimony I believe that you are just plain stupid or there is something seriously wrong with you. Contrast Suzannah Hupp's testimony with Katy Perry's emotional outburst. Katy has never been the victim of a mass shooting and if she goes to a restaurant to eat with her parents she is most likely surrounded by armed security. There is no need for Katy to carry a gun because she is well guarded everywhere she goes. She can sleep very soundly in her bed knowing that her her mansion is surrounded by walls. She has a state of the art alarm system, and armed security is roaming the grounds. The rest of us are responsible for our own safety and our guns are a big part of the equation. Also contrast Ms. Hupp's emotional but eloquent testimony to Katy Perry's typical left wing knee jerk tantrum and consider whose argument is the most convincing. If we really want to create a safer society government must do several things. First, it should recognize the validity of the 2nd Amendment. Second, government must focus on punishing criminals and not law abiding citizens and recognize that the citizen is the first responder, not the police. A lot of people can die in the few minutes it takes for the police to arrive. A gun will usually stop a shooter at some point. No matter who is wielding it. It will either be by the shooter taking their own life or they will be stopped by a citizen or law enforcement. Why take the most powerful element out of the mix? The armed law abiding citizen. There are countless examples of armed citizens stopping shootings in this country. We all know why the government wants our guns. They could care less about how many people are killed. It is about having total power over our lives. This is why Katy's tears have no effect on me. So like Sgt Hulka might say, lighten up Francis.
