GIVE EM HELL
On my way into work this morning I was listening to a local conservative talk show host. A listener emailed the question that asked if the death of Charlie Kirk would still be having the same impact six months from now. That is a good question and I have been thinking a lot about that. I think that his death is having a greater impact than we know and his movement will continue to grow. Before Charlie Kirk's death there were people of all ages who either didn't know who he was or had only heard his name in passing. Now people are seeking out his videos on line. Once they actually listen to what he is saying they discover that their beliefs and values are more in line with Charlie's than with the Democrat party. This same I talk show host played a couple of young people's testimonials to how their opinion of Charlie Kirk was much more positive after taking the time to listen to him. Both happened to be young black men. One identified as a homosexual. They expressed anger that the left had lied to them about Charlie Kirk. I believe that the testimony of these two young men is just a glimpse into what is happening across this country and the world right now.
As I have stated many times in the past I was a Democrat in 1980. The near assassination of Ronald Reagan was also a catalyst for my conversion to Conservatism. I will never forget the moment that I heard President Reagan had been shot. I was sitting in a courtroom when the judge was handed a note. He then broke the news to us that Reagan had been shot. We all let out a collection of gasps and groans. Most adults in that room were very familiar with these kind of moments. We had endured the assassinations of JFK, Malcolm X, MLK, RFK, the near assassination of George Wallace and Gerald Ford twice. There was no celebration or smiling in the courtroom. I am sure that there were many people in that courtroom, like myself who were not fans of Ronald Reagan but we didn't want to see him killed. That was America in March of 1981. Although President Reagan was spared from death but I began to see him in a different light. I was impressed by his courage and fortitude. This was an elderly man by the standards of the day. Now we have had a president in his eighties and one close to that age but at 70 Reagan was our oldest president to that point. I realized that he wasn't the ogre that the Democrats had made him out to be. My values were more in line with his than with the Democrat party. By 1984 I was a Reagan convert and staunch Conservative.
A second reason that I believe Charlie's Kirks influence will be felt is that his death has confirmed to many what I and others have been warning for years now. The left wants us dead. They can't win arguments against us. It is impossible to defend the indefensible. So we must be silenced by any means necessary. They tried to silence us by intimidation and to a certain degree that has been successful. Conservatives have self censored themselves order to get along, or they have been in fear of losing their jobs. We didn't lose our jobs celebrating someone's death. We lost our jobs just for having opinions that were contrary to the powers that be. Then they tried to arrest us into silence. That didn't work so now they are trying to kill us. These tactics didn't stop the Civil Rights movement or the women's suffrage movement. Nor will they stop ours. Charlie's legacy is that he was speaking out against this political violence and was urging president Trump to take action. Because of his death President Trump is now going after terrorist networks like Antifa and their sponsors. President Grant sponsored the Ku Klux Act passed by Congress in 1871. This law effectively drove the Klan underground and it would not reemerge as an active organization until Democrat Woodrow Wilson gave it his blessing in 1915. Congress needs to pass similar legislation against leftist terrorist networks.
The violence will not stop, however; until the Democrat party tones down the rhetoric. They won't do it until they are soundly voted out of national and local offices. Even then there is no guarantee that they will change. As long as they continue the hate us Charlie's name will be front and center in everyday life. Unfortunately there will probably be more deaths on the right from their violence before they are vanquished. Until then, play time is over. This is a different group of people they are fooling with now. We are not woke. We are awake and we will defend ourselves. I saw a meme that said Charlie Kirk wasn't using hate speech. He was using speech that they hated. Harry Truman said it even better to my liking. At a campaign stop a supporter shouted "give em hell Harry". Truman answered "I don't give em hell. I just tell the truth and they think its hell".
