Reflections of An Uncommon Common Man

   My grandson Russell Qualls was born with spina bifida. What Russell lacks in physical ability is made up by the heart of a champion. If every athlete had the heart of this little boy they would all be superstars. He always has a smile on his face. When he first started playing baseball at the age of 3, he would have to bat using his walker, and he couldn't hit a pitch thrown by the coach. Now he can hit the pitches standing on his own without any support, other than his braces. After swinging sometimes, he loses his balance and falls but he gets right back up. He has hit some pretty solid hits and is a good hitter. When he used to walk the bases with his walker, and later, with the help of the coach, it was a tremendous struggle for him. I have seen sweat rolling off of his face caused by his effort but his smile never diminished.   I have been aware of the political left for much of my life but for years I never realized how dangerous they were. The Vietnam war woke me up to the fact that they had become powerful enough to cause our defeat in that war. Although Lyndon Johnson fought the war about as badly as you can fight a war, our military still won every major campaign. We were not defeated on the battlefield but were defeated on the streets of America. The political left can be blamed for that defeat. By 1972 I sensed that those same people that were leading the mob in the street were now in charge of the Democrat party. I was a Democrat until the early 1980's and I was in my early 30's when I finally realized for certain that the political goals of the Democrat party and mine were in no way similar. I became a Conservative and have never regretted my decision to leave the Democrat party. Since that time I have come to loathe the Democrat party and everything it stands for.  As I write this, the Democrats are doing what they do best. Trying to steal an election. It looks like the election is now in the hands of the hordes of lawyers on both sides and eventually this thing will end up in court. Regardless of whether Trump wins, or the Democrats steal this election, I just want to say that I believe that Donald Trump is the third greatest president in American history. I have to put him behind Washington and Lincoln because Washington created our republic and Lincoln saved it. Without a doubt, however; Trump has accomplished more both domestic and foreign in one term than any president in history. And he has done this in the face of opposition unlike anything any president has faced with the exception of Lincoln. Amazingly he has weathered it all just fine both on a physical and mental level.    After the Civil War the Republican party tried to make inroads into the South in order to give the newly freed slave his share of political power. Civil rights was great but these rights meant nothing without the right to vote. That was always the battle for Blacks clear up to the modern civil rights movement of the early 1960's. The Democrats were determined that there would only be one party in the South and it would be the party of the White man. The KKK, like Antifa and BLM today, was the terror arm of the Democrat party. Blacks and Whites were terrorized into silence and scared away from the polls. Other things were done to deter voting such as poll taxes and tests that a Harvard professor would have trouble passing in order to vote. The South lost the Civil War on the battlefield but it won the peace.
