Isaac Mayfield   I love the South and the Southern people. For most of my life I have felt a need to defend the South and it's honor. This defensiveness came primarily from the feeling that many Northerners looked down their noses at the Southern people. We are seen sometimes as ignorant hicks. I remember watching the Christmas parade in Nashville once, when I was a child, and several men, who I believe were soldiers from Fort Campbell, were making fun of our parade and of the crowd. They all had Northern accents. In the age of social media, more media exposure, the growing popularity of Country music and the fact that so many Northerners are moving South to escape the tyranny of Northern cities and states, the South is respected much more today than even 30 years ago. The fact that the South lost the Civil War didn't help either.  A Minnesota police officer named Kim Potter is on trial for manslaughter in the death of a young man named Daunte Wright. Officer Potter claims that she mistakenly grabbed her pistol instead of her taser and shot Daunte. I have looked at the body camera footage and it is obvious to me that it was a tragic mistake. It does not appear that she intended to kill him. As it happens far too many times Daunte resisted arrest and this can be clearly seen in the body cam video. I am not on the jury, however; and there may be enough evidence to make a case that Officer Potter was negligent. We will have to wait and see. Daunte shares one thing in common with so many others who have died at the hands of a police officer, or have been injured by them. This also includes the white people killed by police.  The Cambridge Dictionary defines evil as the condition of being immoral, cruel, bad, or an act of this type. Since satan is known in the religious world as the personification of evil we can learn much from studying his character. John 10-10 says that "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly" The contrast between good and evil in this Bible verse could not be more evident.
