GUN FREE ZONES ON MILITARY BASES MAKE NO SENSE
There was another shooting at a military base. Yesterday, at Fort Stewart Georgia Quornelius Radford shot and wounded 5 of his coworkers. Luckily no one was killed this time. The worst shooting ever on a military base was at Fort Hood Texas on November 5, 2009. A radicalized Islamic soldier, Nidal Hassan killed 13 and wounded 30. Obama refused to call it what it was, a terrorist attack. He called it workplace violence instead.
There have been a number of mass shootings on military bases over the years and of all places they should not be gun free zones. Most military personnel, regardless of the career field that they ultimately end up in are trained to fire rifles, properly care for them, and how to safely handle them in basic training and boot camp. I believe the Navy trains with handguns in boot camp. Career fields such as MP's, pilots, special warfare, infantry, and others are taught how to use handguns. It makes no sense to trust service personnel with a weapon in combat, or in the performance of their duty, but they can't carry a weapon for personal protection on base. This also goes for military veterans like myself.
Trump has campaigned on the return of common sense to America. It is time for him to order Pete Hegseth to return common sense to our military bases. Allow the military and our veterans to at least carry concealed while on base. I have argued for this ever since the Ft. Hood shooting. I am for the total elimination of gun free zones almost everywhere. The only exception might be in courthouses or on airplanes but gun free zones are simply an invitation for the mentally ill, criminal element and terrorists to prey on law abiding citizens.
